What to expect
Walking trails at Mutemwa
Take in the beauty of the Zambezi habitat that surrounds Mutemwa. From the towering trees that give us our name, to the wonderful birdlife, and the sounds and smells of the bush – walks around Mutemwa allow you to tap into something deeper.
There is something truly special about simply slowing down and experiencing the bush around Mutemwa on foot. Beyond the fishing, guests are free to wander the surrounding wilderness at their own pace, taking in the quiet beauty, birdlife, and remarkable scenery that make this part of the Upper Zambezi so unforgettable. Towering trees surround the lodge itself — the very trees that inspired the name Mutemwa, meaning “the place of big trees” — creating a peaceful riverside setting filled with shade, movement, and life. Whether walking beneath these immense canopies, listening to the calls of birds overhead, or exploring the open bush around camp, every walk offers a different perspective of the wild beauty that defines this region. Earlier in the year, seasonal floodwaters from the Zambezi fill up our dip and channels behind the lodge, transforming them into tranquil backwaters alive with birdlife and reflections of the surrounding wilderness. These quiet areas become perfect places for scenic walks, photography, and simply enjoying the stillness of nature. For guests wanting to disconnect, stretch their legs between fishing sessions, or experience the bush in a slower and more immersive way, walking around Mutemwa is one of the most rewarding and highly recommended experiences at the lodge.
