About
Previously known and loved as the Sinjembela Fishing Safari, we have relocated to a new camp only 40km from the Kamenga Border, 25km closer – reducing the dirt road drive-in and increasing time on the water! We have also taken our camp to the next level and found a spot we know you will love even more!
Our Silundu Camp now overlooks a beautifully pristine Angolan floodplain with the exciting addition of being right in the middle of a major wildlife corridor.
Here’s what to expect from the Silundu Safari:
- Remember those good old safaris where hunters and fishermen would set up a camp in the most remote places in Africa? Safari tents with comfortable beds, hot showers and toilets.
- An impressive thatched roof area with an amazing view for early morning coffee around the camp fire, before you go out for a good mornings fish. Coming back to a delicious brunch prepared by our friendly chefs.
- Followed by an afternoon nap or some birding before heading out on the water again after some high tea, catching Africa’s mighty Tiger fish and a couple of the spectacular Yellow Belly Robustus Bream (Nembwe) for dinner.
- Back in camp as the sun is setting, after a hot shower, you’ll be sitting around the campfire enjoying a drink with lots of ice and telling great stories about the days adventure.
- The camp chef announces dinner, the table is set under the stars, lit up with colonial paraffin lanterns where your delicious 3 course meal is served.
- The next day you can choose to take a packed lunch and a full cool box filled with drinks and ice for a full day of fishing, choosing to either head up or downriver to find untouched waters filled with promising trophies.
For 29 years we have explored every part of Barotseland, finding the most idyllic settings along the banks of the many rivers of the Wild West of Zambia and nothing is quite like the Kwando River!
This exclusive safari is available only in October, with limited spots for only five groups of eight guests each per year.
Comfort in the Bush
Our camp is made up of 8 spacious 3x3m safari bow tents, each fitted with a wooden framed bed and comfortable Sealy Posturepedic mattress.
What to expect in camp:
- Central thatched lapa overlooking the floodplain
- Comfortable and spacious tents
- 3 course meals under the stars
- Hot showers
- Running water and flush toilets

On the Banks of the Kwando
Set in front of a small lagoon, Silundu camp sits on this idyllic horseshoe bend of higher ground, overlooking the beautiful Kwando floodplain. The small lagoon is formed from still, quiet backwaters of the Kwando River creating the perfect environment for wildlife, birds and breeding fish.
Silundu camp is situated on the edge of the Sioma Ngwezi National Park and forms part of a major wildlife corridor used by animals traveling between Zambia and Angolan.
Fishing
River Information
The Kwando river originates in Central Angola and meets the Zambian border at a place called Shangombo, from which we run our Shangombo Fishing Safari (LINK), and continues down forming the border between the two countries before continuing into Namibia. The Kwando is much smaller than the Zambezi with an average width of about 10m across and an average depth of 2-3m but holds extraordinary life, teaming with a wide variety of game and non-game fish species.
Species
The two most iconic species caught on the Kwando are Tiger Fish and Yellow-belly bream, also known as Nembwe.
Tackle Recommendations
Feel free to test out whatever lures you feel could land you that trophy but these are a few of our favorites to use on the Kwando:
- Black & purple Afrijigs
- Red & Back Afrijigs
- (SIZE) Copper Spoons
Afrijigs and Copper spoons are available for purchase in camp (whilst stock lasts).
