The Migration
November and December reveal Liuwa Plains at its most spectacular, as the first rains transform the dry landscape into a thriving wilderness. More than 40,000 blue wildebeest return from neighbouring Angola, following the rains and fresh grazing into the fertile floodplains, bringing incredible wildlife encounters with large herds, newborn calves, and predator activity from hyena, lion, wild dog and cheetah. Alongside the migration, Liuwa becomes a birding paradise, with the seasonal pans and grasslands attracting thousands of waterbirds, raptors and migratory species. It is a time of remarkable change, where the plains come alive with movement, colour and some of Africa’s most authentic wildlife experiences.
