The Royal Barotse Safaris
Foundation
Empowering communities through wildlife, tourism, and opportunity.
About
The RBS Foundation exists to serve the communities surrounding our areas of operation in Western Zambia.
Through the growth of wildlife conservation and tourism, we aim to unlock real, lasting opportunities for local people — creating employment, developing skills, and supporting community-led initiatives.
Our approach is simple:
When wildlife and wilderness areas are protected and valued, they become powerful drivers of economic growth and community upliftment.
“There’s no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return.”
~ Nelson Mandela
Our Projects
The Kalobolewa School Needs Us.
Kalobolewa is a rural community school in Western Zambia where access to quality education remains limited. Despite strong attendance and a willingness to learn, the school faces ongoing challenges due to a lack of infrastructure, resources, and support.
The RBS Foundation is committed to working alongside the community to strengthen the school environment — creating better learning conditions and opening up future opportunities for the children of Kalobolewa.
Limitations we aim to help with:
- 9 New Classrooms
- New boarding accommodation and lodging
- New Sanitary Ablutions
- Provide stationary and learning resources
- Provide Extra curricular activity resources

The Kindergarten
The kindergarten is where the foundation of learning begins. It is often the first point of structured education for young children in the community, playing a critical role in early development, confidence building, and basic literacy. Kalobolewa currently has one kindergarten class.
Current Needs:
- Shortage of basic learning materials (books, stationery, teaching aids)
- Minimal early childhood learning resources
- Basic infrastructure not suited for very young children
Our Aim:
To create a safe, engaging, and well-equipped early learning environment that gives children the strongest possible start to their education.
We aim to:
- Provide essential early learning materials
- Support teachers with better resources
- Create an environment that encourages curiosity and development from an early age

The Primary School
The primary school forms the backbone of education at Kalobolewa, where students build foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. There is currently a shortage of classroom space and the school has had to setup temporary mud and pole structures to accommodate the learners
Current Needs:
- More classrooms
- More desks and seating
- Textbooks and learning materials
- Extra curricular activity resources
We aim to:
- Build 2 new secondary classrooms
- Provide desks, books, and core learning materials
- Provide extra curricular resources such as sports equipment and infrastructure.

The High School
At high school level, education becomes critical in shaping future opportunities. This is where students begin preparing for employment, further education, or vocational pathways. Currently there are 9 High School classes and only 3 classrooms causing the learners to have to rotate throughout the day and some even coming back at night to receive there daily lessons. This not only limits learning but also impacts their ability to take part in extra curricular activities like sports.
Current Needs:
- New classrooms
We aim to:
- Build six new classrooms allowing all 9 classes to be present at once.
